The secret to a great sex life? Intimacy ❤️
By Simone from Happytoys
What is the actual secret to a great sex life?
A question we at Happytoys think about regularly. We talk a lot about vibrators, dildos, masturbators, lubricants, and other products that can help explore sexuality together. But sometimes the most important ingredient isn't a toy at all.
It starts with connection.
A good sex life isn't just about sex. It’s also about trust, attention, communication, and the space to truly get to know one another.
Sex doesn't automatically make a relationship good
It’s easy to get the idea that great sex automatically ensures a great relationship. Movies and series often lead us to believe this: two people meet, have incredible chemistry, and then everything just seems to fall into place.
But that’s not how real life works, of course.
Sex can actually reveal the state of your relationship
When you feel safe and connected with your partner, sexuality can be a wonderful expression of that.
But when there is little trust, communication, or attention for each other, sex cannot simply fix those problems.
That is why you might better view sex as a thermometer rather than a thermostat.
A thermostat regulates the temperature. A thermometer shows how warm it is.
So sex doesn't have to make or repair a relationship. It can actually show what your connection is like at that moment.
Intimacy is more than sex
Perhaps this is the most important insight from the story on which this blog is based:
What people are often truly looking for is intimacy.
Sex can be a part of that, but intimacy goes much further.
What does intimacy mean?
Intimacy means that you get to know each other better and better and also dare to let yourself be known.
That can mean:
- honestly sharing what you feel;
- listening without judging immediately;
- touching and cuddling each other;
- laughing together;
- daring to be vulnerable;
- saying what you find pleasant;
- respecting boundaries;
- making time for each other;
- giving each other attention.
It is precisely when that foundation is strong that sexuality can become a beautiful way to experience that bond.
A good sex life starts outside the bedroom
When thinking about a better sex life, we might immediately think of a new sex toy, a daring idea, or a different way of making love.
But sometimes it starts much earlier.
With a conversation at the kitchen table.
With a kiss before you leave for work.
With laughing together.
With asking how the other person is actually doing.
Get to know each other
A long-term relationship does not mean that at some point you know everything about each other.
People change. Needs change. Bodies change. Desires can change.
That is why staying curious about each other remains important.
“What do you enjoy these days?”
“What helps you relax?”
“Is there anything you would like to discover together?”
Those kinds of conversations can sometimes be surprisingly intimate.
Safety provides space for sexuality
When you know that your partner listens to you and respects your boundaries, it creates space to show yourself.
And that applies to sexuality as well.
You don't have to be perfect
A good sex life doesn't mean that every time has to be great.
Sometimes you are tired.
Sometimes you are not in the mood.
Sometimes something doesn't go as you expected.
And sometimes you discover something new and think: why haven't we tried this before?
A strong relationship makes space for all those moments.
Discover what you both like together
When the foundation of trust and communication is there, it can be incredibly fun to discover new things together.
That can start very simply.
From cuddling to sex toys
Maybe you want to take more time for foreplay.
Maybe you want to try out a vibrator together.
Maybe you are curious about a masturbator, cock ring, or another toy.
Or maybe you specifically want to discover which forms of touch you enjoy without any aids.
The most important thing is not what you choose, but that you discover it together.
A sex toy can add something, but doesn't have to replace anything
At Happytoys, we obviously love fun toys. 😉
But a vibrator or other sex toy is no substitute for attention, communication, or intimacy.
View a toy rather as an extra opportunity to explore together.
Talk to each other about wishes
A simple question can change a lot:
“Is there anything you would like to try sometime?”
Maybe your partner has an idea you have never thought of.
Maybe you do.
And maybe it turns out you don't need anything new at all and primarily want to make more time for each other.
That is fine, too.
The secret to a great sex life
If I had to summarize the story from this blog, I would phrase it like this:
A great sex life starts with a great connection
Not the other way around.
A strong relationship isn't created because everything always goes perfectly. It’s about choosing to keep getting to know each other, to keep listening to each other, and to keep growing together.
Sex can then be a beautiful expression of that.
My advice as Simone from Happytoys ❤️
I think we sometimes make sexuality way too complicated.
We look for the perfect technique, the perfect toy, or the perfect moment.
But perhaps a pleasant sex life starts with something much simpler:
Give each other attention.
Put your phone away.
Give each other a kiss.
Ask how things are actually going.
Cuddle a bit longer.
Tell them what you like.
Listen to what your partner needs.
And stay curious about each other.
After that, you can always discover together which vibrator, dildo, masturbator, lubricant, or other toy suits you.
Because at Happytoys, we don't say it for nothing:
Rather Happy than Easy ❤️
A great sex life is ultimately not just about what happens in the bedroom.
It is about two people who choose to discover each other again and again.
